A report published by The Times of India raises important questions about the recommended daily intake of eggs. According to various nutritional studies, while eggs are a highly nutritious source of protein, vitamins, and minerals, excessive consumption may pose significant health risks.

Research indicates that overeating eggs can increase the risk of heart disease due to their cholesterol and saturated fat content. Other potential side effects of consuming too many eggs include digestive issues such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort.

The report also warns about the long-term effects of excessive egg consumption on blood lipid levels. When eaten in moderation however, eggs offer numerous health benefits. Eggs provide high-quality protein that promotes a lasting feeling of fullness and contain essential vitamins for brain and nervous system function, including choline, which supports cognitive health and helps prevent heart disease.

Additionally, compounds in eggs such as lutein and zeaxanthin help maintain eye health and protect against macular degeneration. Other nutrients, such as vitamins A and B12, and minerals such as selenium, support immune function and contribute to healthier skin and hair.

Regarding the recommended quantity, experts generally advise consuming one egg per day as part of a healthy diet, with some guidelines suggesting up to seven eggs per week as a safe limit.
