Can a single tomato a day keep high blood pressure at bay?
A new study published in the British paper "The Sun" has uncovered intriguing findings on the relationship between eating tomatoes and high blood pressure.
According to reports now appearing in a European journal of preventive cardiology, scientists discovered that consuming one large tomato daily could lower one's chances of developing high blood pressure by a striking 36%.
Over a span of three years, researchers followed 7,056 men and women aged 55 to 80, 5,821 of whom suffered from hypertension. Participants were divided into four groups based on their tomato intake: less than 44 grams, between 44 and 88 grams, between 88 and 132 grams, and more than 132 grams per day.
The results showed that those who consumed the highest amount of tomatoes (over 132 grams a day) had the lowest probability of developing high blood pressure, compared to those who ate the least amount (less than 44 grams a day).
Researchers explain that the anti-inflammatory properties (including antioxidants in tomatoes) could be the reason for the beneficial impact on blood pressure. They recommend incorporating tomatoes into one's daily diet to help prevent and manage high blood pressure.
So if you're facing high blood pressure issues, don't hesitate to add one or more tomatoes to your daily menu.
