We've all been there: you find half an avocado from yesterday or even the day before lurking in the fridge, only to discover it's turned brown and you throw it out because you're concerned about eating it. Nutritionist Dr. Maya Roseman addressed this common issue on her FM103 show: what to do when you've peeled an avocado and only used a small part of it?

Many of us choose to eat just half an avocado because it contains between 400-800 calories each. "Ever avoided eating the whole thing only for it to turn brown?" Dr. Roseman asked. "Well, you can freeze it, which remarkably preserves its nutritional value."

Dr. Roseman explains that you can slice and freeze the avocado to maintain its freshness. "Peel and slice the avocado, drizzle a little lemon juice over it, place it on a tray lined with baking paper, wrap it tightly with cling film, and move it to the freezer for 24 hours," she explains. "After 24 hours, take it out, divide it into bags of sliced avocado, and return it to the freezer. Whenever you want avocado, even when it's out of season, just take it out, defrost, and enjoy."
