Feeling stressed and experiencing sudden drops in blood pressure? Dr. Dalit Driman, a family medicine expert, shares three dietary hacks to tackle this issue—believe it or not, one involves adding more salt!
Not a lot of salt, but enough to make a difference—especially if consumed with a glass of water first thing in the morning. These tips offer relief not just for emotional stress but also physical stress, which can lead to insomnia, lack of concentration, blood sugar imbalances, infections, and inflammation. According to Dr. Driman, sticking to these three tips can help you manage both physical and emotional stress better.
Her first tip is for those who experience long-term stress leading to drops in blood pressure. Driman advises avoiding foods high in potassium, which can lower blood pressure, such as bananas, sweet potatoes, potatoes, raisins, and more.
The second tip is also aimed at dealing with blood pressure drops. "It's recommended to salt your food and start your day with a glass of water containing half a teaspoon of salt," she notes in a video where she shares these tips.
Her third tip is to avoid caffeine and alcohol during periods of physical and emotional stress. "Caffeine is a stimulant that adds more stress to your body, so it's best to avoid it," she explains. "Alcohol, on the other hand, burdens the liver, which often isn't functioning properly under stress, so avoiding both is advised."
