Is tap water good for your facial skin? While it contains essential minerals like zinc, iron, and calcium, it's actually not recommended for facial skincare.

American expert Gloria Lynn explained in an interview with Newsweek that washing your face with tap water can disrupt the skin's natural functions and lead to a host of unwanted issues for those with sensitive skin, including dry skin, eczema, acne, and psoriasis.

She stated, "The minerals in unfiltered water can bind with substances in soaps and cleansers, effectively impairing the cleansing agents and leaving behind skin residues that clog our pores."

Not Recommended for Sensitive Skin

As noted, the undesirable effects on facial skin due to the use of unfiltered water are particularly evident for those with sensitive skin. Moreover, it can harm the natural microbiome layer on our skin.

"Using unfiltered water can disrupt the natural balance of skin flora, which can worsen acne, dermatitis, and eczema," she explained.

She also emphasized that hair can be damaged by tap water, noting that "using such water can make hair lose its natural shine, and become drier and more brittle."

So, what's the solution?

Following the doctor's recommendation for people with sensitive skin to avoid using tap water, she suggests being mindful of water quality and, if necessary, using filtered water when washing your face, along with creams to restore moisture to the skin.
