The DETOX process comes from the words de-toxification, which translates to cleansing toxins.
During this cleansing process, the body undergoes three key actions: preventing inflammation, cleansing the digestive system, and burning fats.
The inflammations we’re talking about are known as ‘silent’ inflammations – the kind that ‘simmer’ quietly until they erupt. This detox is aided by consuming vegetables and greens like cucumber, broccoli, wheatgrass, celery, parsley, cilantro, scallions, dill, among others.
In detox circles, it's believed that dairy products can cause silent inflammations, so to avoid creating them, we should eliminate dairy completely. Since the goal is a total cleanse of the digestive system, detox advocates also recommend avoiding gluten and beef, which are thought to bring ailments into the body.
If you want to boost fat burning, detox has a concept known as sirtfood - foods that help initiate the breakdown of fat tissue. This term is derived from a protein and enzyme called sirtuin, which is directly linked with fat burning.
Recently, awareness of this super diet has increased, with many celebrities worldwide shedding pounds thanks to it.
Some facts you may not know about sirtuin:
1. It inhibits the production of telomeres – the ‘caps’ at the end of chromosomes responsible for aging.
2. Sirtuins are a group of genes in our body that are dormant until a state of danger is detected.
3. When these genes sense danger, they activate family enzymes to renew cells, enhance memory, prevent diseases, and even extend life expectancy.
"A diet rich in sirtuin enzymes enhances your metabolic capability," says American holistic nutritionist Kelly LaVeck. "We used to think fasting was the only way to activate this enzyme, but now we know it can also be triggered by specific foods."
So what should you eat? The list is long, but here are some foods that will help stimulate sirtuin and promote fat burning in your body. Don't forget to follow the guidelines below for the best results. Just eating sirtuin-activating foods without lifestyle changes won’t make the method work.
Some sirtuin-boosting foods include: dark chocolate, capers, green apples, various citrus fruits, kale, green smoothies, turmeric, red wine, cherries, strawberries, cilantro, and parsley.
Method for executing the diet:
In the first week, it is recommended to consume only green smoothies and one meal each day (without exceeding 1000 calories per day).
After this, consume three meals and two snacks per day, still not exceeding 1000 calories, and favor green smoothies.
This creates a calorie deficit, and fat will be burned thanks to the activity of sirtuin enzymes.
