When making schnitzels, dealing with the leftover oil in the pan is part of the package – and most of us aren't too fond of cleaning up that greasy mess. It's a cumbersome and dirty task, but there is a better way.

If you have a large amount of oil left in the pot or pan, first pour it into a tightly sealed bag, then dispose of it in the trash can. The method we're about to discuss tackles the small amounts that are notoriously hard to remove.

Remember, perform the following steps after the oil has cooled, naturally.

Let's start with what you shouldn't do.

It is not only unadvised but forbidden to pour the leftover oil down your sink, as it can cause clogs and further plumbing issues.

So what should you do instead?

This method, tried by hundreds of women (myself included), was popularized by comedian Henia Bell, who shared it on social media and received rave reviews.

All you need is: a paper towel, dish soap, and a little water.

Place a paper towel in the pan, pour a little dish soap on it, add a bit of water, and swirl the paper towel around the pan. The result: all the remaining oil is absorbed into the paper towel, which you can then throw away – leaving the pan ready for a regular wash with the rest of your dishes in the sink.

Not a trace of oil remains. Try it and see for yourself.
