Anemia isn't an easy challenge, but its symptoms can be significantly alleviated, and it doesn't have to be expensive...

Some issues faced by people with iron deficiency include irritability, fatigue, weakness, depression, shortness of breath, headaches, and very cold limbs. Anemia can be caused by numerous factors, even medications and dietary supplements that weaken blood flow.

So what can you do?

Indian doctor Dr. Hansaji Yogendra shared a cost-effective, simple, and easy tip using common household ingredients to tackle iron deficiency.

All you need is beets, juice from half a lemon, jaggery (Indian cane sugar), and water.

"Add 6-7 red beets to a pressure cooker for long cooking with a pot full of water," recommends the Indian doctor. She notes that in India, jaggery—a special sugar from sweet cane rich in natural molasses—is added to the mix. Jaggery is essentially a 'chunk' of sugar, as seen here:

Jaggery can indeed be found in select natural stores, but you can also use natural cane sugar or molasses if you don't have jaggery. To this mixture, the Indian doctor also adds juice from half a lemon and recommends, "Drinking this daily will wonderfully enhance your hemoglobin levels and enrich your red blood cells with oxygen," she concludes.
