About 25 years ago, I read an interview with a well-known singer whose songs were considered quite melancholic. The headline of the article was: "I'm Basically an Optimistic Person", prominently displayed across half a page. The words resonated with me. Back when I was 16 and loved decorating my room's walls with everything from posters to poetry excerpts, I cut out that headline and pasted it on my wall. Every morning, I'd wake up to those words, and they'd be the last thing I'd see before bed: "I'm Basically an Optimistic Person".

Why "basically"?<\/p>

Because optimism, I believe, is something you build over time. Sure, some people are naturally more optimistic, always seeing life through rose-colored glasses. But many others are "optimistic by principle". They have a foundational optimism that can get worn down by life's experiences. And that's how this article came to be. From the understanding that optimism requires effort and renewal. Just like renewing a doctor’s prescription or restocking your pantry. It requires action.

So, for those of you who feel a bit down and are looking for a more positive outlook on life, here’s a list of 50 small, magical, and special moments that happen in all our lives. First raindrops, the pleasant sound of music, or a stranger's smile on the street—all these add magic to our lives. If we practice focusing on them, we might just become happier, more optimistic people.
