What Are Tides?
Most of the time, the sea looks calm and steady but sometimes it rises (high tide) and sometimes it falls (low tide). Why does this happen?
It all has to do with the movement of the Earth and the moon. The moon’s gravity pulls on the water, and when the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the Earth, their combined pull causes the water to rise. As the moon moves away, the pull gets weaker, and the water level goes down again.
When Was the Rubik’s Cube Invented?
The Rubik’s Cube is a favorite puzzle around the world but did you know it was inspired by art?
The inventor, Ernő Rubik, was an architect who loved the work of a painter named Mondrian, who used lots of lines and squares in his artwork. In 1974, Rubik decided to create a cube puzzle with six colorful sides, each made of nine moving squares. He probably didn’t imagine just how popular it would become!
Which Animal Can Walk on Water?
There’s a small lizard called the basilisk lizard that can actually run across water!
It has special flaps on its feet that spread out and create tiny air pockets, helping it stay above the surface. But there’s a catch, it has to move really fast. If the lizard slows down, it sinks right into the water!
