Ine Canabarro Lucas, born in 1908 and listed in the Guinness World Records earlier this year, passed away this week at the age of 116. She was widely recognized not only for her long life but also for sharing her passion for soccer.

Lucas was a well-known figure in the Catholic community in Brazil. Born in the late silent film era, before the invention of antibiotics, she became a symbol for many in Brazil. According to her nephew, her birth registration was delayed, and the family believes she was actually born in late May instead of early June. "In her childhood, she was so fragile that doctors doubted she would survive her early years," he recounted.

Lucas also nurtured a love for the local soccer team. The club she supported issued a statement of condolence upon news of her death: "Her memory will be cherished in our hearts for her faith, kindness, and passion for the game." With Lucas's passing, Britain's Ethel Catherm is registered as the oldest living person today at 115 years and 252 days. According to records, she is also the last person alive born in 1909.
