What's the first thing you would do if you heard buzzing noises coming from your wall? If it's a drywall, you'd likely do what Andrew Card, a British beekeeper, did for his client, a resident of Inverness, Scotland: he broke through the drywall after the grandkids staying in the apartment said it was 'buzzing'.
The footage Card shared on his Instagram account, showing him breaking the ceiling, went viral within hours: thousands of bees emerged. He explained to the "Daily Mail" how the homeowner discovered the bees: "The kids mentioned they could hear the bees at night every time they stayed over." He estimated that the enormous swarm that emerged from the ceiling contained about 180,000 bees.
According to Card, the honeybees had "settled" in the client's home several years earlier and multiplied at a rapid rate. He claims the swarm consisted of three large colonies, each with about 60,000 bees.
The footage stirred numerous reactions. "Is this going to be your new home?" one user asked. The beekeeper replied, "I hope not. Tomorrow we're moving them out."
Card added that soon a special team with a dedicated vacuum will arrive at the house to remove the bees quickly and efficiently. They will be placed into a temporary hive, and over the coming weeks, he will ensure they are not dangerous and free of parasites. According to him, the surviving bees will be able to produce honey in a few months.
