Antisemitic protests on campuses across the U.S. have sparked worldwide reactions condemning these events. Among those speaking out is the well-known actor David Schwimmer, who called for support for Jews against these actions.
In an Instagram post, the Jewish actor wrote: "Jewish students across America are facing the most severe attacks on their rights, dignity, and safety that I have seen in my lifetime." Schwimmer shared a video featuring footage of a pro-Palestinian protestor attacking advocacy activist Yoseph Haddad, along with a clip from a speech by Eden Yadgar, a Jewish student at Columbia University.
"While some protests are peaceful, the overall atmosphere is one of harassment, intimidation, segregation, hate speech, threats, and actual violence," Schwimmer wrote. "If it were any other minority group, the reaction would be outrage and immediate action. Yet this antisemitism is growing and spreading from middle school to high school and onto college campuses across the country. Please show your support for your Jewish neighbors, friends, and colleagues. Silence is complicity."
This isn't the first time Schwimmer has protested against antisemitism on social media. In December, he launched a strong attack against university heads, writing: "106 Democrats refused to denounce the drastic rise in antisemitism in the U.S. and around the world. 92 of them were present for the vote. They were apparently present in body but left their moral compass and conscience at home. Silence is complicity."
