When an Australian user recently shared this post on social media, they didn't expect to get so many reactions and likes for an allegedly 'innocent' picture of mushrooms sprouting from the carpet in their home.

The mushrooms featured in the photo were yellow and elongated, and according to the user, they were located in a bathroom next to a shower. "Our master bathroom and shower are adjoining our bedroom, and this carpet is constantly wet. Recently, we noticed these mushrooms growing from it. How can we tackle this bizarre phenomenon?" asked the user, who wished to remain anonymous (understandably so).

Despite the carpet being wet all the time, these mushrooms grew within just a few hours and appeared quite large relative to the space they sprouted from—right next to the wall.

The post garnered hundreds of responses from users who empathized, sharing that similar events had occurred in their homes, likely due to moisture under the carpet. "We had a similar experience, and in our home, the mushrooms came from the shower tiles. Only when we dismantled them did we realize there was no proper sealing and the floor was soaked," wrote one responder.

According to them, this issue is one of the toughest things to experience in a house, often occurring "when you hire a non-professional to cut costs on sealants. In our case, everything was full of mold and rot, and we had to remove all the furniture. It cost us a fortune, thousands of dollars."

"Check if you might have a leak somewhere," suggested another response. "If there's a leak and mold, that's an environment mushrooms love. But even if you haven't seen mushrooms of that size, the fact that there's mold is dangerous to inhale long-term."

Another suggestion was to get a professional sealant expert and at the same time activate your home insurance. "I had the exact same issue with mushrooms and mold, and when a professional came, they found the source of the problem was a leak in the hot water pipe in the shower. The insurance company sent a plumber who fixed the problem."
