Flies and mosquitoes feeling at home in your space? You need to try this simple hack.
(Photo: Shutterstock)Summer is here, and many are battling swarms of flying pests: Flies and mosquitoes arrive with the season and find their way indoors. If you're dealing with this issue too, you might want to try this simple trick suggested by cleaning guru Miss Hinch's group.
The trick is very easy: Take a small plastic bag, fill it halfway with water, add a few coins, and hang it near your windows. That's it. You've made a cheap and clever mosquito repellent.
Group members claimed a bag like this hanging by open windows keeps flies out because it makes them think it's a wasp nest, steering them away from danger. You'll need to change the water from time to time.
Other users explained that flies have unique vision, possessing compound eyes known as "mosaic vision." This means they see the water bag multiple times at once, and combined with the coins, it creates a rainbow of colors that hurts their eyes.
Pest expert Walter Murphy emphasizes that along with all these tricks, keeping a very clean house is crucial. "Clean your home of anything sugary, decaying meat, and other trash. Wipe surfaces and take out the trash as often as possible. This will prevent flies from coming in."
