Why You Should Sprinkle Fresh Yeast on Your Balcony Plants
If your potted plants look tired and lifeless, they might be missing vital nutrients. Surprisingly, these nutrients might be in your kitchen.
(Photo: shutterstock)Anyone who tends to a plant or two on their home balcony knows that flowers require attention and loving care. While simple watering might seem sufficient, you might be right, but in the long run, adding fertilizers to the soil will help your flowers to refresh and bloom more quickly and abundantly. You can certainly buy fertilizers at the nursery or easily prepare them at home.
Here's an introduction to two simple recipes for creating homemade fertilizers packed with minerals for your plants:
Yeast Water for Watering
Ingredients needed:
- 6 liters of water left out for a whole day (you can use less, just adjust the amount of yeast accordingly)
- A cube of fresh yeast
How to prepare?
Crumble the yeast cube into the water and use it to water the plants.
Why is this good?
Yeast speeds up flower growth, promotes abundant blooming, and strengthens the root system. When the roots are strong, they easily absorb water and minerals. Yeast contains nutrients like vitamin B, phytohormones, and auxin.
Eggshell Powder
Ingredients needed:
- Dried eggshells
How to prepare?
Grind the shells in a grinder or blender and store the powder in a jar.
You can add the powder to the soil,
or mix it into the yeast solution we made earlier.
Why is this good?
Eggshells provide essential minerals like calcium carbonate, potassium, and phosphorus to plants. These minerals are vital for rich and healthy flower growth.
