A waitress at a café in Cullman, Alabama, received a $1,124 tip from an especially generous group of diners on a $74 bill.
Tanya Ragsdale, one of the group members, shared the act on her Facebook page and told local media that she and her friends started the tradition of generous tipping about a year ago. They visit various dining spots across the United States, leaving substantial tips based on service quality. According to her, each member contributes around $100 for the meal and tip. "We don't know the servers who serve us. Our goal is for this act of generosity to reach other groups of friends, and we want to normalize generosity towards service providers," Tanya said.
"I currently work as a nurse in a hospital, and I believe my presence in this world is to help people. It's important to me for this message to reach as many people as possible so we can be kinder and more generous to one another," she concluded.
Julia Allison, the waitress at the café who received the generous tip, thanked the group warmly and said she would use the money to buy gifts for her children.
