Every year, an incredible natural phenomenon at Lake Berryessa in Northern California amazes locals.

It occurs during the rainy season: when the lake fills to the brim, a gigantic drain hole at the Monticello Dam begins to swallow enormous amounts of water. Known globally among experts as an 'engineering marvel' or the 'Hole to Hell,' this drain was built in the 1950s to handle up to 48,000 cubic meters of water (or 48 million liters).

A video from a few years ago captured a cormorant swimming nearby that got swept into the massive drain but miraculously survived against all odds.

As expected, this intriguing spot captures global curiosity each year, attracting dozens of people eager to witness the marvel firsthand. However, due to several incidents resulting in fatalities, local authorities have prohibited entry to the area.
