Discovering the World's Heaviest Potato in New Zealand
Guinness World Record Potential: An 8 kg potato has been unearthed in a New Zealand farm, surpassing the previous record of under 5 kg.

A particularly large potato recently discovered at their farm in New Zealand has likely set a new Guinness World Record.
The unusual potato was found in the garden of a couple named Colin and Donna Craig-Brown, who were doing their weekly gardening.
Just a few weeks earlier, they had planted cucumbers there.
Suddenly, while digging into the soil with his hoe, Colin noticed something brown, hard, and large. "We started digging around it," the couple recalls. "We couldn't figure out what it could be. Maybe a giant cucumber?" they laugh.

"I took the fork and stabbed it a few times," Colin says. "When it came out, I didn't know what it was. I asked Donna several times 'What is it,' and only after taking a bite did I realize: it's a potato."
So, what do they plan to do with the giant potato, besides basking in the fame its discovery has brought them? Once the potato is officially declared a Guinness World Record holder, Colin plans to turn it into a special type of vodka.
