Hero Dog Saves Teen from Rattlesnake Bite

*Marley*, a mix of Labrador and Golden Retriever, bravely risked his life to save his owner from a venomous snake bite. Eighteen-year-old Alex has cared for *Marley* for seven years. The courageous act happened in their backyard in San Diego, California, USA. "*Marley* and I were at home watching TV," Alex recounts. "The dryer buzzer went off, so I opened the front door to get the laundry, with *Marley* right behind me. Suddenly, I heard a strange noise."

*Marley's* immediate response was astonishing. He bolted out the door, pushed Alex aside, and leaped directly at the snake. At this point, the venomous rattlesnake managed to bite *Marley* twice, on the tongue and neck, before quickly slithering away.

"Everything happened so fast. I managed to get *Marley* inside after he was bitten, bleeding everywhere and collapsing in pain," Alex recalls. "I took him to the local vet, but they had no antivenom, so I had to drive to an animal hospital 25 minutes away."

On the way to the hospital, *Marley's* face became severely swollen, and he began having breathing complications. "I tried to stay calm even though time wasn't on our side. It was a terrifying moment, and I didn't know if he'd make it."

Upon arrival at the hospital, *Marley* received the antivenom, and Alex was asked to wait outside for further updates. "The vet told me *Marley* was in critical condition and might not survive, but they would do everything to save him," Alex said. Fortunately, *Marley* survived, though he now suffers from nerve damage in his tongue and jaw, requiring regular medication.

"My parents adopted *Marley* when I was 11 to help me with my health issues and weight problems. Thanks to his energy, he became my cardio workout partner. For months, we walked and played together, and suddenly my health problems began to disappear, and I also lost weight. *Marley* is a hero who saved my life. Without him, I don't know if I'd be here today."
