#VALUE!
A member of the Israeli Fruit Growers Council decided to set a great example for his grandchildren, ages four to seven, by planting kohlrabi with them.
Even Avi Almogi, the grandfather, didn't anticipate the kohlrabi they planted at his home in Zichron Yaakov would take root and grow 35 times its usual size in just nine months. The kohlrabi, which Almogi planted with his grandchildren, reached a weight of 15 pounds (!), while the typical kohlrabi you purchase at the supermarket averages around half a pound.
Almogi explained his goal in planting the kohlrabi was to "teach the younger generation that fruits and vegetables don't grow on supermarket shelves, but rather in the ground with ongoing effort." In his home orchard, you can find both fruits and vegetables, which he and his grandchildren diligently nurture. "I teach them the stages of growth and they participate in the entire process. This way, they understand and appreciate the work behind agriculture and the fruits and vegetables they eat."
Almogi further shared that his grandchildren were amazed by the enormous size of the kohlrabi and were happy and proud of their hard work - but they weren’t the only ones to enjoy it. 40 family members and neighbors received salads made from the massive kohlrabi.
