Why This Turtle is Making Waves Online
Ohio firefighters were astonished when they discovered around 60 turtles being illegally kept inside a large burning building. Thanks to their quick thinking and special oxygen masks for animals, some were saved from the flames.

Firefighters arrived at the scene of a fire in a large building in Ohio, only to find about 60 turtles being held illegally inside.
"We received a call about smoke igniting in a shed, and it turned out to be a large barn with the turtles roaming freely but trapped within the flames," reported the firefighters.
These experienced firefighters came prepared with special oxygen masks. "These oxygen masks are designed specifically for very small animals, like birds and turtles. We realized early on we'd need all of them," they said.
Thanks to the oxygen masks, the firefighters managed to save about ten turtles, including two large ones that were near death from the thick smoke exposure. "Unfortunately, some turtles didn't survive the intense flames," read a post on the local fire department's Facebook page.
"We lost seven turtles inside the barn and a few more that we rescued a bit late. The others survived thanks to the firefighters' efforts at the scene. Currently, we have 50 turtles in our basement, hibernating and waiting for spring," they added.
