Meet the World's Tallest Teen: A 14-Year-Old Who Surpasses NBA Players
Guinness World Records to soon recognize Ren Qiu as the tallest teen in the world.

Guinness World Records is set to soon recognize Ren Qiu as the tallest teenager in the world. Qiu, a 14-year-old from Sichuan, China, recently applied for recognition as the tallest teen aged between 13-18.

Qiu's height is approaching three meters, even though his parents recall that as a baby, "there was nothing that would give it away. He was completely normal."

"The change began around kindergarten. That's when we noticed he was a little taller than his classmates, and most people thought he was already in second or third grade. By the time he was 11, he stood 2.06 meters tall. In his childhood, we took him to doctors to check for any genetic conditions, but all tests were negative. We believe it's hereditary because we have many distant relatives who are very tall."

Despite his height and the fact that his friends nickname him after Chinese NBA player Yao Ming, Qiu doesn't see himself pursuing a basketball career. "I find it difficult to move because of my height, and I also have flat feet," he explains in an interview with the Chinese news agency.

Representatives from Guinness World Records measured Qiu (pictured) and recorded him at 2.21 meters tall. They are now expected to make an official announcement recognizing him as the world's tallest teenager, having surpassed the previous record holder.
