A bizarre mystery has recently disturbed the peace of a small New York town, after an old safe with a mysterious note was left in a private field.

Townspeople, surprised by the discovery, have tried to figure out what the ancient safe contains, attempting various methods to open it—all to no avail.

Keehris Mathis, the field's owner and a local farmer, told local media that a resident alerted him to the discovery, leading him to find dozens of people gathered around the massive safe, trying to open it.

"I estimate it weighs at least 500 pounds," remarked Mathis, noting it remains unclear who placed it there or why. "The note attached says, 'If you manage to open it, you can keep whatever is inside,' but so far, no one has succeeded."

One resident, Cindy Vanlishout, commented, "It might hold a million dollars or just a pile of confetti. None of us know, so we're all dreaming big."

Some residents took to using heavy hammers to break the door hinges, but all they managed to do was break the handles and parts of the lock mechanism. "If you ask me, I think it's the work of some teenagers or a prankster in the area. For now, I don't plan on moving it from the field, because once the doors open, the show is over. In times when headlines are full of viruses and politics, it's nice to have something different to talk about," concludes Mathis, who currently leaves the safe as a local attraction.
