This Car Drives Without Gas, Fuel, or Charging

A German automotive company developed an innovative car that charges itself while driving, without the need for electric charging, gas, or fuel.

The biggest fear for electric car owners is getting stranded without a charging station nearby. While some have suggested placing solar panels on the car's roof to avoid such scenarios, a German company went a step further and unveiled a car completely covered in solar panels to enable charging while driving.

The car, known as the Sion, will be the first solar car to enter the mass market. It will cost 25,000 euros or around $29,000. But will the car look strange or different from regular cars? Not at all, it turns out. "The solar cells blend seamlessly into the car's design and could provide up to 34 kilometers of range per day," said the company's spokesperson in a press release. "This exceeds the average commuting distance from home to work in Germany."

The initial model produced in 2017 recently received upgrades that offer more space for passengers. The car is compatible with a ride-sharing app, making it ideal for those wanting to share rides and even energy, thanks to a shared charging system, as seen in the picture.

Sono Motors plans to develop additional vehicles based on the original model. These models will be tailored for urban mobility, business trips, spontaneous travel, and short-distance package deliveries. It's known that car production results in significant carbon emissions, which can't entirely be avoided at present, but it's encouraging to know that traveling in a solar car will prevent future emissions. While the vehicle, slated for release in early 2022, isn't optimal for long trips, it is highly efficient for short journeys and makes a small, yet positive impact on our planet's environment.
