Why Buy a House When You Can Print One in a Day?
A California real estate company has found an innovative solution to the housing crisis: printing small homes for $100,000 in just 24 hours.
3D Printed HomeA Californian company has transformed the complex process of buying, installing, and delivering a home into something as simple as pressing a button.
"Mighty Buildings," the company in question, can complete a house within 24 hours. The home comes with walls, floors, and ceilings all printed using a 3D printer in the company's Oakland warehouse. They use a material called "Thermoset Composite," which makes the structure durable, requires low maintenance, and is energy efficient.
Customers can choose various sizes and numbers of rooms. Installation and delivery are included in the price. A 323 square foot apartment costs $115,000, which includes installation. However, plumbing, electricity, furniture, doors, and windows are all fitted afterward using traditional methods.
For those in the 3D industry, these are exciting times. Right now, an entire neighborhood of 50 homes in Mexico is nearing the final stages of printing. The homes in this neighborhood will serve low-income residents, with the purchase supported by non-profit grants.
Printed homes are becoming increasingly popular because their costs are significantly lower than traditional home costs. The construction process is considered 90% more efficient than traditional methods.
However, there are differences in capabilities and technologies between various companies. While most companies only build the frame, some also build the floors and roofs of the building. "Once you can produce floors and ceilings, not just walls, you save hours of expensive labor," says CEO Slava Solonitsyn.
In the meantime, until this process reaches us, we can only ask: would you want your home printed in 24 hours?
