How many times have you thought about getting a pet but hesitated because of the care it demands? Studies show that pets can reduce anxiety and loneliness, lower blood pressure and cortisol levels, and enhance social skills.

Caring for animals naturally brings a calm feeling. A report from the University of California, Los Angeles reveals: "Caring for pets releases serotonin, prolactin, and oxytocin – all important hormones that elevate mood."

Unfortunately, ongoing pet care, including feeding, cleaning, and vet visits, often limits adults, particularly those needing care themselves, from having pets. Even if they desire a pet, it often becomes unmanageable. Now, a Riverdale, New York nursing home has found a solution: robotic pets for their dementia and Alzheimer’s patients. These pets can move, roll over, purr, growl, open and close their eyes, mimicking real animal behavior without strenuous feeding and cleaning. Thanks to this special breed of robotic dogs and cats, many elderly individuals can now enjoy this joy in their lives.

Robot pets offer seniors the feeling of having a pet without the drawbacks and responsibilities. The leading products are tailored for the older population. Besides providing companionship, these robots hold promise for significantly improving the quality of life for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients.

In a CBS video filmed at the "Hebrew Home" memory care unit, a center spokeswoman explains that they often use robot pets to soothe dementia-related issues, thereby reducing medication use. "These animals are a wonderful, non-medical way to provide patients with peace and calm," she says.

Daniel Reingold, CEO of the nursing home, adds: "Reducing medication use and creating a sense of calm are excellent benefits, but the advantages don't stop there. These robotic pets often boost patients' self-esteem, offering seniors a chance to be in a helping, caregiving role rather than being only recipients of care." All in all, it seems that caring for robotic pets brings joy and interest into seniors’ lives, boosting their overall mood.
