Oscar, a Burmese cat, incredibly survived being caught in a 12-minute spin inside a running washing machine after accidentally falling asleep in it without his owners knowing.
This two-year-old cat enjoys napping in various places around the house, particularly among fabrics.
His owner, Amanda Meredith, first sensed something was amiss when her husband Angelo loaded the bed linens into the washing machine and set it on a hot, quick cycle with detergent.
"My suspicion arose when I heard a strange noise coming from the washing machine," Amanda recounted.
It was a sound akin to a muffled whine.
"Initially, I thought it was coming from the closet, so I went in that direction but heard nothing." She started wandering through the house calling out for Oscar, but to no avail.
There was no sign of him. "It’s not like him to disappear like that," she noted. "At that moment, I knew something was very wrong, and I started searching like crazy."
Then she stopped near the washing machine, noticing Oscar’s paws on the inside of the machine’s glass door. "He looked at me with the most miserable expression. It was a tragic moment."
Amanda rushed to stop the machine with a shout, but the door wouldn’t open, leaving Oscar trapped inside for a full six hours until a washing machine technician could come to his rescue. Oscar was taken to a veterinarian and incredibly survived the ordeal, with only a few bruises around his legs caused by the spinning machine.
