Last week, the world's tiniest newborn, weighing just 268 grams, was discharged from the hospital in stable condition. When he was born several months ago, doctors feared for his health, keeping him under close supervision and care in the hospital for months.

While it's not the first instance of a baby born with such a low weight, doctors at Keio University Hospital noted that it's extraordinarily rare for a baby of this size to survive birth at just 24 weeks of pregnancy and eventually go home healthy. Historically, only about half of the babies born weighing less than 300 grams have survived.

The excited mother shared with the media that when he was born, she couldn’t hold him because he was no bigger than a regular-sized fist.

The staff at the university hospital worked tirelessly to increase the baby's weight, and today, his condition has completely transformed as he now weighs 3.2 kg. “I am so happy and grateful that he reached this size,” his mother told Reuters. “I wasn't sure he would survive.”
