A stray cat in Russia has become an 'internet star' after saving a two-month-old abandoned baby from freezing to death in a cardboard box on the icy street. Residents of an apartment building in Obninsk were used to feeding the cat and even gave her the affectionate nickname 'Masha'.

The neighbors were stunned when Masha 'disappeared' for more than two weeks, prompting concerns about her fate. Irina Lebrova, one of Masha's biggest admirers who diligently fed her every day, feared the worst, suspecting Masha might have been hit by a car. But that same day, Irina discovered the incredible truth.

Irina searched near the building and found Masha in a small alley being slowly covered by snow. Masha was curled up inside a cardboard box, sparking Irina's curiosity. "Only when I got closer to the box did I realize why Masha wasn't leaping out to eat," Irina recalls with emotion. "As I approached, I saw Masha wrapped around a small baby whose face was blue."

Irina immediately called for an ambulance, and the little baby was taken to the hospital, found healthy despite the time spent outside. Paramedic Vera Ivanina, who arrived first on the scene, expressed disbelief upon seeing Masha in the box, guarding the helpless infant with her body. "You could actually see the worry on the cat's face as we took the baby away," the paramedic shared. "It's amazing to see that animals can have emotions similar to those of humans."
