A sinkhole that appeared last Shabbat on the White House grounds, following a particularly stormy week in Washington, sparked unexpectedly funny reactions on social media.

The sinkhole opened up on the North Lawn, near the office of White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley, and close to the briefing room. According to the White House, sinkholes are not an uncommon phenomenon in Washington during this period, but they assured there is no danger involved.

Later on, a smaller sinkhole appeared near the larger one, and even though the National Park Service arrived to block access to the area, social media users took the opportunity for some humor, joking that the sinkholes appeared because 'Melania tried to escape.'
