Sometimes we encounter strange sights on the street, leaving us uneasy and suspecting something is amiss. But how many of us can speak up when faced with a suspicious situation, let alone act on it?
This was exactly the scenario for 12-year-old Jada Miller from the U.S. She witnessed a particularly disturbing scene: "I was hanging out with my neighborhood friends when suddenly I saw my 4-year-old neighbor, Kylie, being led by a guy who wasn't her mom or dad," Jada recalls.
According to her, Kylie seemed happy and didn't question anything. She willingly held the stranger's hand and followed him down the street, moving further away from her home. "I shouted to my friend to run quickly to the house I showed her and call Kylie's parents," Jada explains. "Then I ran to Kylie and forcefully took her hand."
Kylie started crying, but Jada didn't panic. She began walking with Kylie in the opposite direction while the stranger, later identified as Benjamin Spasogevich, a 27-year-old who lived nearby, tried to assure Jada he hadn't done anything wrong.
When Kylie's father hurried outside and realized what was going on, he couldn't stop thanking Jada. Simultaneously, he called the police. Officers who conducted a sweep quickly found Benjamin nearby, and during the investigation, it turned out he was mentally unstable and had previously talked about kidnapping children - but because of his illness, no one took him seriously.
According to local news channel TMJ4, he is now charged with kidnapping, although his attempt was unsuccessful. "Jada has proven to us today that even kids her age can be brave in such situations and prevent disaster, as things could have ended very badly otherwise," said Kylie's parents.
