1. Use the recommended amount of detergent: Nowadays, there are precise detergent pods you can toss into the machine. If you're not using pods, remember to use the exact amount of detergent as indicated on the box. Using more than recommended can leave residue on your clothes.

Additionally, ensure detergent doesn't accidentally spill into the fabric softener compartment. This can cause unwanted clogs and prevent future use of the compartment.

2. Don't overload your machine: Keep in mind that the maximum capacity includes the weight of water-soaked clothes. It's advisable to fill the machine to only 3/4 of its volume. Overloading can strain the drum's rotating axis and damage it.

Conversely, avoid running the machine when it's half full due to reasons of energy conservation and machine wear reduction.

3. Turn clothes inside out and empty pockets: Coins, pins, tissues, candies, and gum can all bring the machine to a halt. Empty pockets and turn them inside out before washing to protect both your clothes and the machine.

4. Choose short cycles for daily laundry: Most clothing goes into the wash after a single use, so it's unnecessary to run long cycles that wear out clothes and the machine. The recommendation is a 40-minute quick cycle. There's also a 15-minute option for lightly soiled items and a refresh with fabric softener.

5. Gently open the machine door: Some washing machines have mechanisms that prevent opening the door during operation. Don’t force it open to avoid damage.

6. Let your machine rest post-wash: After the washing cycle, close the water valve, unplug the machine, and leave the door slightly open for air circulation to help evaporate water and cool down the motor.

7. Clean the washing machine: To prevent malfunctions, here are a few actions to take periodically:

Every two to three months, wash the detergent compartments (you can do this in the dishwasher).

After several washes, it's advisable to empty the filter usually located at the front of the machine, bottom right. Remove small trapped objects like rubber bands, fabric fibers, and coins. Rinse the filter with water, then return it dry.

Furthermore, run the machine once every two months on a high-temperature cycle (about 80 degrees) for roughly 15 minutes with no clothes, skipping detergent and softener. You can add 5% vinegar to dissolve any limescale build-up, helping prevent clogs caused by limescale in machine components.
