It was a pretty ordinary day. Angela Sanders from the U.S. was alone at home with her five-month-old son, Dakota, who was sitting in his chair eating. Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, Angela noticed Dakota's face turning blue, and he was struggling to breathe. Panic set in as she realized she'd never taken a CPR course and had no idea what to do. "I knew I didn't have time to think, and the first thing that came to mind was to run to the window and call for help."
Luckily, Daniel Kraft, a cable technician standing by his vehicle, heard Angela's cries from the street. "I ran quickly into the building, and when I reached Angela's apartment, I saw little Dakota lying on the floor lifeless. As a graduate of a CPR course, I immediately noticed he had no pulse. When I tilted his head back, I was sure he'd swallowed something that was causing him to turn blue," Daniel recounted to Fox 28 News. "I put my finger in and started moving it to make sure his throat was clear. Suddenly I heard Dakota gurgle, and he began to breathe again."
Daniel stayed with Dakota until the ambulance arrived, and only when he was taken to the hospital did the doctors reveal that Dakota had suffered from a hernia, which likely triggered the incident. Without Daniel's help, enabling him to breathe again, the baby might not have survived. "He's a hero, and I'm so grateful to him for saving my baby," Angela said. "He was there at exactly the right time."
Angela has already learned her lesson and doesn't intend to wait for another such scenario. She enrolled in a CPR course to ensure that if anything else happens to Dakota, she'll be ready and know how to deal with it. "It's crucial for all parents to take a CPR course and understand how to handle such situations, which unfortunately happen more often than you'd think in homes with small children," Dakota's doctors explained. "Don't wait for a miracle, and don't rely on chance. Be prepared for parenthood and do what you can to prevent these scenarios."
