After two decades of separation, a touching reunion took place between a policeman and a girl he saved. Klynn Scales finally met her childhood hero, Officer Jeff Colvin, after months of searching online.
Klynn was just nine years old when her family lived next to a police station in Kansas City, USA. "She would stand by the window and wave to us every morning as we began our patrols around the city," the officers recounted.
One officer in particular would greet Klynn daily, and she would smile back and greet him as well.
But one day, she was simply gone. "I waited to see her in the window, but my gut told me something was wrong in that house," the officer shared with FOX4 News.
He decided to enter without warning, and what he discovered was shocking. "No one was home. I found Klynn lying on a couch by the entrance, in very poor health. She was extremely sick and weak," he recalled.
Understanding Why She Had to Steal Food
The officer immediately sensed something was wrong and took the girl to the hospital, where it was revealed she was suffering from malnutrition. She received proper care, and her family was taken in for police questioning. Years later, Klynn revealed that she grew up with her two younger brothers in a particularly neglectful environment.
Nine-year-old Klynn was the eldest, and many times she had to 'steal' food from the nearby 'ELEVEN 7' gas station. Now, the officers fully understood her small thefts — only some of which had been discovered. "Since then, in all the bad times in my life, I imagined the heroic officer saying he was here for us, and if we needed him, he would always be there to protect us. And that we shouldn't fear anything. It helped me cope with so many frightening situations over the last twenty years."
As the years passed, their connection was lost, but neither of them forgot each other — and recently, after persistent searching on her part, Klynn managed to reconnect with him. "One day, I was sitting in my office when I received an email from 'a little girl who lived near the police station.' I immediately knew who it was," smiles Officer Jeff Colvin, the hero of Klynn and her brothers.
"I don't know if he understands the magnitude of the good deed he did. But it's very important to me that he knows I haven’t forgotten it, and I never will. He literally saved my life."
