Recently, a five-year-old girl became a hero, earning a bronze medal and becoming the youngest person in Canada to receive such an honor for her extraordinary actions. It all started a few months ago when Lexi was traveling with her mother Angela and her 10-week-old brother, Peter, in the family car.

"That day, my fatigue knew no bounds," recalls Angela. "We were driving when I felt my eyelids getting heavier. I caught myself immediately and did my best to stay awake until we reached the next rest stop."

But then, she closed her eyes just for a moment, and before she understood what had happened, she found herself in a deep ditch. "The car crashed into the ditch, and I lost consciousness. We would have had no chance without Lexi’s quick thinking," the mother recounts.

Lexi was fully conscious when she heard her baby brother crying helplessly, while her mother couldn't hear him. Without anyone explaining how to act in such situations, Lexi just knew what to do. She unbuckled herself, climbed barefoot up the steep embankment, and waved her hands to passing cars until one stopped.

A young couple, surprised to find a little girl alone on a highway, called emergency services, and rushed Lexi, Angela, and Peter to the hospital. Only then was the miracle realized: "I was hospitalized with severe back injuries, and Peter had internal brain bleeding," Angela shares, wiping away tears. "But it could have been much worse if my brave daughter hadn’t gone for help."
