On the day Avishai got his driver's license at 18, he bought a car. "The same day I bought the car, the rabbi saw me and said, come read some Psalms. I said, 'What do I have to do with Psalms'? Eventually, I was convinced and agreed to read a bit. It opened to 'A Prayer of Moses,' and out of laziness, I skimmed with my eyes and didn’t read every page, just the first one. Then, the rabbi gave me the book and told me, 'Keep it with you'.
That day, Avishai went out to have fun with his friends in his new car. He drank a little, and on the way back home, he hit a traffic island and the car flipped. "The car flew into the air and turned into an accordion, and the airbag deployed. Luckily, nothing happened to me, and after a few minutes of recovery, I tried to open the door, and it opened."
According to Avishai, the book of Psalms he got from Rabbi Arush was closed in the glove compartment, but during the impact and rollover, it flew toward him, and the airbag sealed it against him. "With one hand, I pushed the door open, and with the other, I held the book of Psalms on me. It was open, and when I looked at it, the first words I saw were 'A Prayer of Moses'.
"At that time, I didn't know the Creator, and we had no connection. I was sure the words 'A Prayer of Moses' were the name of the book, which is why I saw them first. I flipped a page and saw 'A Psalm of David'. That's when it clicked. I started reading and realized that out of 200 pages, it opened exactly to the chapter I read with Rabbi Arush."
"I looked at the car—it was completely wrecked. And I came out without a scratch. As a secular person, I understood that 'coincidence' cannot repeat itself so many times. What are the odds that the book would fly out of the glove compartment straight to me, open on the page I read before going out, and that the airbag would hold it in such a way that I had to take it out with me?"
