Didier Levinfish and his mom Tanya had just returned to their home in a neighborhood near London when they were ambushed by two men who emerged from the shadows. They knocked Tanya to the ground, attempting to steal her earrings. Amid the chaos, young Didier kept his wits about him: he activated the emergency alert on their home's security system and focused on memorizing the distinct features of the attackers' faces.
The sounding alarm sent the burglars running, but this wasn't the end of the story. When the police arrived and took statements, Didier was able to detail the assailants' appearances. Soon, police apprehended several suspects, conducted a lineup, and Didier easily identified the men who tried to rob his mom.
This incident happened last summer. Why is it in the news now? Because just last Tuesday, the two burglars, brothers named Dublin and Eugene Williams, were sentenced to eight years in prison. The attack at the Levinfish home wasn't the start of their criminal career; in fact, they were some of the most sought-after criminals in the area, having spent over 14 years committing burglaries and robberies in London's suburbs.
"Eugene and Dublin Williams are two dangerous criminals who have harmed innocent people across London," said Inspector Martin Thomas, who handled the case. "Thanks to Didier’s attention to detail, they were apprehended and brought to justice. We proudly recognize Didier as our police hero of the year."
