A red cow born with an unusual deformation on its back is causing quite a stir on social media in the Far East, particularly in China. The cow, although born with a lower limb complete with joints and a hoof protruding from its spine, functions normally and produces milk.
The cow's owner, Chen Mingao from Qinglong County, China, initially considered euthanizing the animal because of its bizarre condition but ultimately decided against it due to his intense curiosity. "I wanted to wait and see what would happen," he mentioned in a recent interview.
Since the story made headlines, various speculations have emerged. However, local cattle experts clarify that despite its appearance, it is not a genetic mutation. They believe it is due to an underdeveloped twin embryo, which resulted in the twin's leg growing on the cow's spine. While such a deformation could potentially pose health risks, experts reassure that it does not affect the cow's health in any way, and apart from the 'external' defect, the cow is perfectly healthy and functions like any other cow.
