Residents of Peru were startled this week by an unsettling spectacle in the skies above the city of Chiclayo: a local resident captured a unique cloud resembling a fire rainbow peeking out from a regular cloud. The image quickly went viral, with many online users claiming it was a gateway to the underworld.
In reality, this is a rare phenomenon caused by the sun reflecting off tiny hexagonal ice crystals within clouds, a trait characteristic of areas near the equator. The phenomenon typically occurs when the cloud and sun align at a 58-degree angle.
