A goldfish living in a tourist aquarium in San Antonio recently had significant mobility issues. The fish suffers from swim bladder disease, which prevents it from staying upright in the water. As a result, it spent its time stuck at the bottom of the aquarium.
Recently, however, a creative aquarium employee named Derek found a solution for the disabled fish, according to buzzfeed. He wrapped a thin gauze bandage around the fish and added a valve underneath to stabilize it as if it were on a chair. A piece of styrofoam was added on top to provide weight balance.
"Right now, the weight below is almost equal to the pull from above, so it works really well," Derek explained.
The improvised 'wheelchair' allows the disabled fish to move freely around the aquarium instead of curling up sadly at the bottom. Derek filmed the fish in its new setup, and the video quickly went viral on YouTube. Or, as the BBC put it – you could definitely say the goldfish received a sea of love and support!
