Parents noticed a small lump on their 20-year-old son's cherished goldfish's fin and decided to consult a veterinarian to investigate. Fortunately, the vet, Fay Bethel, warned in time that it was a dangerous tumor that needed to be removed promptly.
"This fish has been with our son for several years, and saying goodbye was not an option. The surgery fee of $250 was a fair proposal for us," the father explained.
"My option was to immediately anesthetize the fish before removing the lump," recalled Dr. Bethel, who used a miniature heart monitor and an anesthesia tube feeding oxygen to the fish. After the tumor was removed, the fish returned 'home' in a plastic bag, and the family couldn't hide their excitement.
"We love pets, even the quiet ones. Our long-time fish now swims as it should, and we no longer fear for its life. We're thrilled that Dr. Bethel's expertise prevailed once again."
