Last Friday, a team of Washington State Police officers was called to the scene of an accident. They found a car with a woman and three children that had collided with another vehicle while waiting at a traffic light. The woman admitted that the accident was her fault, and she received two fines: one for the accident and another for driving without insurance.
One of the officers present was Larry Provoncha. During the investigation, Officer Provoncha overheard the woman telling her husband that they wouldn’t be able to buy their nine-year-old daughter a birthday gift due to the expenses for car repairs and fines.
Officer Provoncha decided the child shouldn't miss out on her birthday gift because of her mother’s mistake. After concluding the investigation and once traffic resumed, he went to a toy store and bought a Disney doll and some coloring books. With these gifts, he drove directly to the family’s home involved in the accident and handed the nine-year-old girl her birthday present, leaving her astonished.
The story came to light after the officer’s wife wrote about her admiration for her husband on Facebook: “He never fails to amaze me with his kindness,” wrote Tina Provoncha. “When he told me what he was going to do, I just cried!”
Coincidentally, Officer Provoncha received the Outstanding Officer Award in his town that evening—a choice that undoubtedly gained the approval of the little girl who received a birthday gift thanks to him.
