Imagine this: a lucky copywriter whose only task to earn $1,100 a month is to lounge around doing absolutely nothing for eight hours a day. Sounds unbelievable? Just call the Netherlands and ask for Frans Kraver, the 53-year-old father of three and formerly busy copywriter, whose average workday used to start no later than 7 AM and end no earlier than 1 AM!
Kraver was selected for an experiment aimed at exploring a new form of financial support provided by the state, grounded in the motto: receive a regular income each month, regardless of your occupation. Why? Simply because you are a Dutch citizen. Kraver embarked on this trial last July when $1,100 started flowing into his bank account every month from an organization called MIES, which aspires to revolutionize the country's economic landscape.
Interestingly, this line of thought is also being considered in Finland. Starting in 2017, 100,000 Finnish citizens will receive a monthly salary of 800 euros (approximately $3,500) as part of a basic income guarantee for every resident.
Currently, in the flat plains of the Netherlands, there is just one individual receiving this fixed monthly income of $1,100—Frans Kraver, the married 53-year-old father of three who, until recently, worked from 7 AM to 1 AM. Since he began receiving this guaranteed income last July, his life has transformed. The funds are provided by the Dutch organization "MIES," which is focused on fostering innovation in economic and social sectors, aiming to promote this bold idea within the country.
