Rare Mediterranean Monk Seal Spotted at Rosh Hanikra
An incredibly rare Mediterranean monk seal was captured on camera by Rosh Hanikra site staff. Marine mammal researchers: "It's an adult female."
Something rare at Rosh Hanikra: the site staff had the delightful experience of spotting a rare Mediterranean monk seal swimming joyfully among the waves, searching for fish.
The seal swimming among the waves (screenshot)The employees quickly reported the sighting to the Marine Mammal Research Center, prompting researchers to arrive at the scene and begin observing the rare sight. According to the researchers, this is an adult female that was also seen last year, likely returning to this spot in pursuit of a fish feast.
