Engineering students from Belfast University have set a Guinness World Record by constructing a 100-foot bridge using Meccano metal toy parts. The bridge, made from over 11,000 lightweight metal pieces, spans a section of the Lagan River. Professor Trevor Whitaker, who led the project and physically assisted in the construction, stated, "We are here to train students and help them think for themselves and achieve their dreams. Dreaming alone isn't enough, you need to take it to the next level and realize it."

Although it took three months and around 70,000 nuts and bolts to bring this dream to life, Prof. Whitaker is quick to assure: "It might seem complicated, but with a serious and smart team, achieving such a feat is very attainable. Additionally, thanks to the toy made of many easy-to-assemble parts, we quite enjoyed the process."
