From time to time, we come across amusing stories in the media about wealthy individuals who go to extraordinary lengths for their pets: dressing them in furs, taking them for manicures, or buying them private limousines. For some people, however, these extravagant pets are not just a source of entertainment—they're also a source of income.

An American company has chosen to capitalize on eccentric wealthy pet owners by building a luxury terminal for pets at New York's JFK Airport. The idea stems from a real need: 70,000 household pets and animals pass through the terminal every year. Although these animals need a place to wait, they don't require hotel-style luxury. However, since their owners are willing to pay for it, the company constructing the terminal isn't about to miss out on this profit opportunity.

The new terminal will be called 'The Ark,' after Noah's Ark, and will serve dogs, cats, horses, cattle, and birds. It will include a spa for dogs, an adventure jungle for cats, a veterinary clinic, and a plethora of pampering services for animals. The general consensus at the airport is that the animals at 'The Ark' will enjoy far more comfort than humans in the old terminals. "We definitely expect to make money from this," says a senior company source. "Now and then, you hear stories about the crazy amounts of money wealthy people spend on their pets…and most of those stories are true."
