This shocking event is not for the faint of heart: The abuse and neglect of dogs and other animals by their owners is unfortunately something we hear about frequently. However, there are cases, like the one before us, that exceed all imagination. It all began on a clear day when Fredo Dinis was walking his dog in a hilly area west of Paris.

In the middle of the walk, Fredo suddenly heard distress cries from a dog and was horrified when he arrived at the source. In front of him was a dog buried under a mound of dirt, with her head sticking out, trying to free herself from the pile. Fredo approached the dog and saw a leash attached to her head tied to a heavy gravel bag to prevent her escape.

Shocked, Fredo called rescue services and simultaneously began working himself: Along with his dog, Fredo cleared the dirt using his hands until he finally rescued the dog, who was in a state of dehydration and shock. He offered her water from his bottle, and the rescue team took her to a veterinary clinic for medical treatment.

The police located the owner - a 21-year-old who claimed the dog 'ran away.' The police quickly refuted his claim, as it was unlikely that a dog suffering from severe arthritis and old age would want or be able to escape. The suspect was arrested and will stand trial for animal cruelty. If proven guilty, he will face up to two years in prison and a fine of around 30,000 euros.
