A London-based company specializing in ultrasound scans now offers a service for expectant parents to receive a tangible 3D printed model of their unborn baby. "Scanning the fetus with 3D printing technology is becoming more and more common," said Katie Carmod, the company's president. "We aim to provide a different kind of experience for our 'pregnant' clients, giving them a unique keepsake they can't get anywhere else. When it comes to technology, we've always been one step ahead of other companies, and we strive to continue leading the field. These models are a distinctive way to share the excitement of a new baby's arrival with family and friends," Carmod added.

"When you go for a regular scan at the hospital, the result you get is displayed on a tiny screen, making it really hard to see the real thing," said 28-year-old McMillan, a client in her 32nd week of pregnancy. "During my first pregnancy, I tried this experience, and it was amazing. I could hold the baby in my hand and clearly see its facial features." And what happens if you don't like the printed result? That's a precedent-setting step we really don't want to know about.

Currently, this extraordinary 'service' is only available in London—leaving us with a little consolation, at least for the short term.
