After hearing and reporting on numerous cases of lifesaving interventions made possible by 3D-printed organs, a new innovation has set the scientific and medical community abuzz: Following approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the American pharmaceutical company Aprecia can now market drugs created using this sophisticated technique.

It appears the first medication to hit the market will be Spritam, a drug for epilepsy patients, designed to stabilize and control their seizures. According to company executives, this printed medication will be accessible and easy to use, and continuous consumption will significantly improve patient conditions. "This is a first step for Aprecia to revolutionize the medication experience for patients," remarked the company's CEO, Don Wetherhold.
